Nine creative methods to keep things interesting in the gym

Are you a Redditch, Bromsgrove or Worcester resident looking to take control of your health, fitness or mental wellbeing? Do you struggle with your weight, or would you just like to feel better? Well, you are not alone. Every day we are helping members of our fantastic community get fitter, healthier and stronger. We find that it’s important to keep things interesting if you are going to maintain a new behaviour like going to the gym. Here are 9 creative ways that you can keep things interesting at the gym. Remember, the hardest part is stepping through the door!

1. Circuit Training

Combine strength training and cardio by setting up a circuit. Move quickly from one exercise to the next with minimal rest. This keeps your heart rate up and maximizes calorie burn. Speak to one of our team if you need help picking exercises!

2. HIIT Classes

Participate in High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes. These classes alternate between intense bursts of activity and fixed periods of less-intense activity or rest, boosting metabolism and burning calories long after the workout ends. We have several of these classes available for you to try! View our timetable here.

3. Incorporate Functional Training:

Use functional training equipment like kettlebells, medicine balls, and battle ropes. These tools engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, increasing calorie expenditure and improving overall fitness. Speak to one of our team if you need help picking exercises that utilise this equipment!

4. Group Fitness Classes

Join group fitness classes like Zumba, spinning, or fighting fit. The social aspect can keep you motivated, and these classes provide a fun, high-energy environment. View our timetable here.

5. Track Workouts with Wearables

Should you use fitness trackers or smartwatches to monitor your workouts? We certainly believe in it! Tracking steps, heart rate, and calories burned can provide valuable data and motivate you to reach your goals. Looking back at this data will show you how far you have come, and it feels great when you hit goals!

6. Try Different Cardio Machines

Rotate between different cardio machines such as the treadmill, elliptical, rowing machine, and stair climber. This prevents boredom and ensures a balanced workout by targeting different muscle groups. All these machines have great benefits, it will make the gym less monotonous to mix it up!

7. Strength Training

Don’t shy away from lifting weights. Building muscle increases your resting metabolic rate, meaning you’ll burn more calories even when you’re not working out. Strength training also reduces the risk of injuries and illnesses, it’s a no brainer! Need help getting into strength training? Speak to one of our team today, we are experts in it!

8. Mind-Body Exercises

Incorporate mind-body exercises like yoga or Pilates. These activities can reduce stress, improve flexibility, and enhance muscle tone, contributing to overall weight loss and well-being. The connection between mental and physical wellbeing is undeniable, and we have a variety of classes that focus on this connection. Look for Body Balance, Pilates and Yoga on our timetable.

9. Personal Trainer

Consider hiring a personal trainer for a few sessions. A trainer can provide personalized workout plans, ensure proper form, and introduce new exercises to keep your routine fresh and effective. Meet our fantastic personal trainers here.
